Doula Childbirth Educator HypnoBirthing® Educator MAP™ and Body Ready Method PRO® Practitioner

My approach

There is a great deal we can learn about birth. We can understand how the body works, the stages of labour, interventions and the choices available to us. All of that matters.

But when the intensity of labour arrives, we will not be there only with our thinking minds. Our bodies and nervous systems will be there too. That is why, for me, preparing for birth is about much more than providing information. I want to help you understand what is happening while becoming more familiar with the body that will experience it.

We are not only preparing to know. We are preparing to experience.

My journey

I am the mother of two little girls, and my husband is Brazilian, so different languages and cultures meeting under one roof are a natural part of our family life. Motherhood drew me deeper into pregnancy, birth and postpartum, and eventually led me to create mamasherpas.

Knowledge, the body, the nervous system and emotional safety have gradually come together in my work through perinatal counselling, doula support, HypnoBirthing®, MAP™ and Body Ready Method PRO®.

The body prepares too

We sometimes prepare for birth as though we were preparing for an exam. But birth is not a performance. Preparation also means developing a relationship with the body: noticing movement, tension, breath, comfort and different possibilities for adapting.

We do not practise so that we can do everything correctly during labour. We practise so that, when the time comes, more familiar pathways are available to us.

I don’t want to teach your body how to give birth. I want to help you become more familiar with the body that will experience it.

Your nervous system will be there too

Birth is an intense physical experience. Our nervous systems respond to intensity in different ways. There is no single correct response. We explore what helps you reconnect with yourself and your baby: breathing, movement, touch, a familiar voice, information, silence or the feeling that you are not alone.

During birth, I am not trying to apply a method to you. I am looking for what might support you in this particular moment.

You don’t have to be “good” at giving birth

HypnoBirthing®, bodywork or any other tool I use is not a recipe that promises a particular kind of birth. Plans can change. Interventions may become relevant. That does not make your preparation meaningless.

We were preparing so that you can remain connected to yourself, understand your options, ask questions and, as far as circumstances allow, remain involved in decisions about you and your baby.

We are not preparing for one particular kind of birth. We are preparing for you to be present in your own.
